Dartmoor Country House
Near Scorriton, Dartmoor National Park, Devon
Beautiful, historical home in Dartmoor National Park
The property is the principal part of this Victorian country house.
Inside, you will love the sense of occasion created by the many period features including specially commissioned stained glass windows and a sweeping staircase.
After an exhilarating day on Dartmoor soak up the atmosphere of a house previously owned by William Le Queux and Sudan’s first president after independence.
Outside, the property is reached by a tree- lined private driveway, shared with a handful of neighbouring properties. The private grounds which extend to thirteen acres, include specimen trees, and are a nature lover’s paradise. Regular visitors to the bird feeders include woodpeckers and nuthatches. Enjoy the spectacular sound of the dawn chorus, and go to sleep listening to owls in the wood. If you are lucky you might see a badger, fox or deer.
You will love playing croquet on the sunny lawn, gin and tonic in hand, while you barbecue the catch of the day. Your dogs and children will love running around in the ten acres of bluebell wood, making dens, climbing trees, and then flopping by the fire.
A large entrance vestibule with original tiled floor provides the perfect place to hang up your coats and boots after a day on the moor or beach, and a laundry room upstairs is equipped with washing machine, tumble dryer, electric heated dryer and iron.
The drawing room and dining room are perfect for grand occasions. The drawing room which leads to the orangery, has a stone mullioned bay window and a beautiful ornate fireplace depicting Aesop’s Fables above a wood burning stove.
Yogis will love the yoga room (space for three mats) with original wooden parquet flooring. Alternatively this would make a lovely children’s play room (the wooden floor is perfect for a train set or a jigsaw), or nursery.
Linen and bath towels are included. The property is professionally cleaned and linen and bath towels changed weekly.
NB. All the bedrooms are large enough to fit in extra beds if required and the downstairs yoga room can be converted into a bedroom.
